An idea that’s worth the digging
Spring cleaning was a full days work this year. Apparently my daughter cleaned her room but when I checked, it was still a mess. She tells me she doesnt have room in her closet and when I checked, it was so. What occupied the space was old toys and clothes that she no longer needed. We cleaned that room from top to bottom. Most of her old things that she was getting rid of were put in bags for either trash, donating or selling it on ebay.
I taught her a method that I always do when I dont know where to begin. I just start at one section of the room and work my way around. It was going well until I noticed a stain where there shouldnt be one. It was a permanent blue marker stain on her head board which is made of an upholstery material. I tried using using alcohol and other cleaning products but the stain didnt come out. It helped but the stain was too big because a few days ago she tried cleaning it on her own with a carpet cleaner so it went from a one inch stain to a whole foot.
Now that the room is clean I pop my head in there about every other day and make sure shes keeping it clean. Im very glad we got rid of her old things because in a few months we will be moving and dont need to bring unnecessary things or spend time cleaning before we pack. A good idea is to setup an ebay account for times like these. I know that can be daunting for some but the reality is it helps whether you need to buy new clothes and toys for your kids or pay some bills. The more children you have the more old things pile up and if youre lucky these things will be in good condition.
Since the end of December I started keeping track of the old clothes that the twins have outgrown and sold. It’s been over $160 and I recently spend that money on new clothes for them because they needed it. I plan on doing that with her clothes so that way when she needs something I just use the money that I got from selling her clothes. Its definitely helpful and I have sold many things over the years. In fact there are many people that turn that into a fulltime job, but I’m not at that level or at least not yet.
