Rough Housing

Boys will be boys, one of the things they’ll naturally do is rough house especially because of some of the cartoons and movies they watch. It doesn’t make it any better that sometimes I just want to wrestle around with them. At their current age of 4 its a bit difficult for them to successfully load a nerf gun, pull the trigger and hit their target. So as of now I’m staying away from that until they are about 5 or 6. But I will settle for close combat and the toy that I will mention is extremely fun and cheap.

Foam swords. That’s right, something made me search on amazon for foam swords and I found a bunch. However not all of them were on my radar for the fact that they looked like they could break easily and for its price it wasn’t worth it. Don’t get me wrong they had cool designs but these toddlers break a lot of their toys and when they do they get very sad and I’m not trying to constantly pay $40 for the same thing that breaks easily.

I found this one pack of swords that came with 6 and they were about $12. It didn’t seem too bad so I decided to give it a shot. When they came, maybe one or two were very flimsy, almost broken at the handle. It didn’t bother me because you get what you pay for. But let me tell you its the best $12 that I have spent on a toy because the constant playing we had lasted days.

The whole entire sword is made of foam with a thick long straw inside from the handle to the tip of the sword which keeps it all intact. These will eventually come apart with enough combat but can be glued back together and it’ll be fine. I also went to Disney for our honeymoon and came across Captain America shields which are also made of foam. Now these shields are great quality and have not ripped or been damaged yet. They have endured lots of punishment from all the fighting we’ve done, believe me. These shields in specific can only be bought in Disney. I tried looking up the same ones online and they cant be found. The only ones are replicas but I can tell by the design its not the same.  The shields were under $20 if I’m not mistaken. James loves Captain America so we bought two because Alex will feel left out.

Let me tell you, when they put on their little super hero masks and are equipped with swords and shields, it is the funniest and cutest thing to witness. There would be times I come home from work and they don’t let me get settled in, they want instant battle. Sometimes they want to tuck the swords in the back of their shirts and act like ninja turtles.

Quite often it’s all 3 kids against me or we pick teams and go at it. Its been a total of two times that I have bought it, and for them its one of their favorite toys. There are some longer swords out there but I dont recommend them because after a while they do bend because they are so long. My kids go extreme swinging the swords hard but the good thing is they never get hurt. Unlike plastic swords I’m sure they will be crying daily if they swing that with all their might. Even a light enough hit from plastic will hurt them. Believe me I wanted to buy lightsabers but they aren’t ready for that yet.

Give these a try let me know what you think the link will be placed below.
